Hartlepool Borough Council is responsible for the maintenance and repair of potholes, where the surface of the road has been eroded, posing a risk to road users.

Regular inspections are also undertaken to identify issues relating to:

Flagged footways (including the theft of paving stones)
Highway verges
Street name plates
Road markings (principally white and yellow lines)
Cycleway markings
Street furniture
Road signs
