Electric Vehicle Cable Channels
Hartlepool Borough Council Highway Services are now accepting quotation requests for residents to have cable channels installed within the public footway to temporarily house a cable allowing the resident to charge an electric vehicle at the kerb side. To apply, please read the below information then click APPLY.
Electric Vehicle Cable Channels are a legal option for residents of Hartlepool who wish to charge their electric vehicle but have no off street parking. An example of which is shown below.
Hartlepool Borough Council will carry out all surveying and installation of the cross-pavement channel after agreement from the resident and an invoice will be issued prior to work commencing.
As an incentive to attract members of the public, who have no off road parking, to purchase an electric vehicle the Tees Valley Combined Authority (TVCA), alongside Hartlepool Borough Council, are providing a grant towards the installation of a cross pavement channel to house an electrical vehicle charging cable which will run from a charging point separately installed on the residents property. This grant is passed onto the resident in the form of a £500 saving.
This offer will be applicable to the first 20 applications received by Hartlepool Borough Council or until the deadline of March 31st 2026 is reached whereupon afterwards the resident will be subject to paying in full for both the equipment and labour charges. Hartlepool Borough Council and the TVCA are keen to emphasise that this grant is only available to those households who make use of on street parking because of no private, or otherwise, alternative.
Hartlepool Borough Council Highways Inspectors are on the lookout for illegal use of such cables, which can potentially cause a trip hazard in the public highway.
