School Admissions

The School Admissions Service is responsible for  coordinating admissions to all Hartlepool Schools, this is a statutory responsibility. The team administrate admissions to primary and secondary schools on normal year of entry (Reception and Year 7) as  well as coordinating in year admissions. The local authority is the admissions authority for all community and voluntary controlled schools .  Schools who are their own admissions authorities do have certain responsibilities in line with the code of practice, some of these responsibilities can be “bought back” from the Local Authority if required.  For example ranking applications prior to making offers during the main admissions rounds, or measuring distances when a school is oversubscribed.   The school admissions team also prepare and present appeal cases for community and voluntary controlled schools and can also do this for VA/Foundation/Academy Schools as part of a buy back arrangement.
