Blue Badges

A Blue Badge is a permit in the UK that allows people with disabilities or severe mobility issues to park closer to their destination. It provides access to designated disabled parking spaces.

Who Can Get a Blue Badge?

You may automatically qualify if:

  • you receive the higher rate of the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA).
  • you receive Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and scored:
  • 8+ points in the ‘moving around’ activity.
  • 10 points under descriptor E in the ‘planning and following journeys’ activity.
  • you are registered blind.
  • you receive a War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement.
  • you’ve received a lump sum under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme and have a permanent and substantial disability.
  • over 90 years old

You may still be eligible after assessment if:

  • you cannot walk or find walking very difficult due to pain, breathlessness, or safety concerns.
  • you have a life-limiting illness and an SR1 form.
  • you have a severe disability in both arms and drive regularly.
  • you care for a child under 3 who needs to be near a vehicle due to medical needs.
  • you have a non-visible (hidden) condition that affects your ability to travel independently

What you’ll need to apply:

Proof of:

  • identity (passport, birth certificate, etc.).
  • address (Council Tax bill, government letter).
  • disability (DLA, PIP award letters).
  • national Insurance number.
  • date of Birth.
  • passport style photograph
  • details of your current Blue Badge (if renewing).

If you are applying using a device with a camera you can take a photograph of your documents and attach them or alternatively you can attach a scanned copy.

We are now able to check benefit entitlement directly with the Department of Works and Pensions. This will speed up your application and will mean that you do not need to provide proof of your benefit entitlement. If you are applying because you receive the necessary disability benefit, you will be asked if you consent to this within the application form.

Cost:

  • £10
  • badges are valid for up to 3 years.
