Net Zero Resources for Businesses

Local businesses will be key to helping achieve a borough-wide net zero target as we extend the boundary in the future. Local businesses across Hartlepool can all play their part to tackle climate change now. Actions to reduce carbon emissions can vary from business to business but in general, improving operational efficiencies and reducing the amount of energy use can lower a business’ carbon footprint.

As well as being beneficial for the environment, there are multiple cross-cutting benefits that a business can experience as a result of cutting its carbon emissions. These may include:

  • Greater financial stability with improved cash flows and increased profitability
  • Improved company reputation and green credentials
  • Competitive edge
  • Reduced costs
  • Security and resilience against market disruptions
  • Attracting new contracts and investment

The Carbon Trust, established in 2001, is a not-for-profit organisation as a result of the collaboration between the government and businesses in the UK. The Carbon. Its stated mission is to accelerate the move to a sustainable, low-carbon economy.

If your business is looking to start the journey in tracking and measuring your impact on climate change, there are several guides available on the Carbon Trust website which are free to access. In congruence with the carbon audit, businesses may also be able to assess their energy performance using the Carbon Trust energy management self-assessment tool.  Further resources can be found on their Guides, Reports and Tools page.
