Some businesses and traders place unauthorised signs or boards on public highways to advertise their services. These signs are not only unsightly, but they can also pose a hazard to pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.
What the law says
Placing signs on the highway without permission is illegal. We actively monitor and remove these signs to keep public spaces safe and tidy.
Offenders may receive a:
- £75 Fixed Penalty Notice
Further enforcement action may be taken if signs are repeatedly placed without authorisation.
