NDORS - Safe & Considerate Driving Course Questions

Why have I been offered the course?

The police offer courses to drivers/riders as an alternative to prosecution for the offence of driving without due care and attention. Courses usually have to be completed within 4 months from the date of the offence.

Can I attend a course other than in Cleveland and Durham?

The scheme operates in most other areas of England, Wales and N. Ireland but run on different days in different areas. If you wish to attend a course other than in Cleveland or Durham you will be able to select an area when booking online. Alternatively refer to the Service Provider telephone numbers with your course offer.

Is a car provided?

Yes. A fully insured, modern car will be provided for the course.

How much training is on the road?

The morning part of the course is classroom based and the afternoon is on-road. As there may be up to two or three clients to a car, some of the time will be spent as a passenger observing other people behind the wheel. Even as a passenger you will be expected to participate in the training.

Will there be a test?

The only test you are required to undertake is the eyesight test, which is a statutory requirement to drive a motor vehicle on a Public Highway. There is no other theoretical or practical test. You might be asked to assist us in evaluating the course and your co-operation in this would be welcomed, although not obligatory.

Can I fail?

You must satisfactorily complete the course which means that you have to actively take part and show improvement in your driving over the period of the course. Having done so you will be advised by the police that no further action will be taken.

Can you accommodate my special requirements?

We will endeavour to meet your needs - please inform us when booking online by entering these in the special Requirements section or by calling us on 01429 523803.

Can I attend a course if I can’t find my driving licence?

It is essential you provide photographic identification on the day of the course, Photocard Driving Licence or Passport. If you do not have photographic identification you will not be able to participate in the course. If you have lost your UK licence contact the DVLA on tel. 0300 790 6801 or visit the DVLA website for advice.
