A HARTLEPOOL careers fair has been such a success, it’s set to become an annual event.

Double the amount of people – well over 500 – came along to the fair in Middleton Grange Shopping Centre earlier this month compared with last year when it was first trialled.

Organised by Middleton Grange and Hartlepool Borough Council’s Education Team, the event was open to the town’s Year 10 and 11 students as well as to people of any age who are not in education, employment or training.

More than 30 employers, colleges and training providers took part including EDF Energy, Army Careers, Springboard, Hartlepool College of Further Education, Hartlepool Sixth Form College, English Martyrs Sixth Form College, Middlesbrough College and New College Durham.

Mark Rycraft, Middleton Grange Shopping Centre Manager, said: “The day proved a great success and was attended by so many young people and their parents looking for advice on career options.

“It offered a fantastic opportunity for visitors to take time to speak with representatives from a variety of different local organisations, businesses and education providers helping them to make informed decisions about their future.

“The feedback we have received from everyone who attended has been incredibly positive and we are looking forward to hosting it again next year.”

Councillor Alan Clark, Chair of the Council’s Children’s Services Committee, said: “With double the amount of people coming along this year compared with last year, we couldn’t be more pleased by the response.

“We also received a lot of very favourable comments from the organisations taking part, which felt that the event was well-run and in a really good venue. They were very keen to do it again next year and we’ll be delighted to oblige.”
