Hartlepool Council will be emptying residents' brown bins for the final time this year over the next two weeks (Tuesday November 14-Friday November 24) prior to a winter suspension of the service

Following the winter break, garden waste collections will resume from Tuesday April 3 2018, with brown bins continuing to be emptied on the same day as green bins.

The winter break reflects a significant reduction in the use of brown bins over the winter when people are less active in their gardens and there is little plant growth which makes the service environmentally and economically unviable.

However, this year’s break is commencing later than usual – last year it began on November 1 - following feedback from residents who told the Council they would welcome some additional time to gather up and dispose of fallen leaves.

Information tags are currently being placed on residents’ green bins – this is the best way to communicate with the majority of households - to ensure they are aware of the suspension of the brown bin service.
