Motorists advised of temporary road closure

MOTORISTS are advised that a section of the Dalton Piercy Road close to the village of Dalton Piercy has been closed temporarily due to a severe deterioration in the condition of the road surface.

The recent extreme weather and an ongoing issue of water draining off the land and onto the road have combined to create some very deep potholes on a section of the road in the area of Dalton Beck.

As a result, the road has been temporarily closed from the reservoir entrance north of the village to just south of the beck and the pumping station.

Peter Frost, Hartlepool Borough Council’s Highways, Traffic and Transport Team Leader, said: “There is an ongoing issue of water draining off the land onto the road and we will shortly be carrying out some work aimed at alleviating that.

“Unfortunately, in the meantime, the recent extreme weather has very much exacerbated the problem and the potholes which have developed are so severe that they pose a considerable hazard, particularly to motorcyclists.

“As a result, we have taken the decision to temporarily close that stretch of road and we will be carrying out emergency repairs to enable it to be reopened as quickly as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience which this will cause.”

In the meantime, access to Dalton Piercy village is via the A19/Dalton Piercy Road or off the A689.
