THE work of six artists is being brought together for a unique exhibition at Hartlepool Art Gallery.

The Navigator North project “Latest Edition” opens in the Apse Gallery on Saturday 24th March (a preview will take place from 2-4pm), and runs until 26th May. It features the work of three regionally based artists - Carol Devey-Haughton, Diane Watson and Becki Harper alongside more established artists Nick Kennedy, Theresa Easton and Alex Sickling.

The emerging artists have received a bursary, developed in partnership with Festival of Thrift, to work alongside more established artists to create new work and be mentored as part of the process of creating this exhibition.

Focusing on the creation of new work connected to the North East as well as exploring sustainable practice, the exhibition includes ceramics, printmaking, textiles, photography and sculpture. A project film offering viewers an insight into each of the artists and the project will also be on display.

Inspired by the North East coastline, Diane Watson’s work is created with the myriad of plastic items washed up by surge tides on Seaton Carew beach.

“The hope is that my work will connect with people, and encourage them to think about the way they use and dispose of plastic in the environment,” she said.

Ashley Landsbury, Cultural Officer (Arts & Exhibitions) at Hartlepool Borough Council, said: “We are delighted that these incredibly talented artists, born and bred in the Tees Valley, have been given this thoroughly deserved opportunity to showcase their body of work by Navigator North”.

The exhibition will also include exclusive limited edition art work created specifically for the project by each of the artists which will be for sale within the Gallery.

“Admission to the exhibition is free to all so we really hope people will come along and show their support to these local artists as well as explore the beautiful artist designed gifts that will be available to buy,” added Ashley.

Latest Edition is a Navigator North project building upon the success of previous professional development programmes and opportunities offered to visual artists.
