Councillor to stand down

COUNCILLOR Ray Martin-Wells, a Rural West Ward councillor, is standing down from Hartlepool Borough Council at the end of the month.

The Local Conservative Group Leader announced his decision at the authority’s Annual Council meeting.

He told the meeting that after 32 years in local politics he intends to spend more time with his family.

Councillor Martin-Wells is Chair of the Licensing Committee and former Chair of the Audit and Governance Committee.

His decision to stand down will result in a by-election in the Rural West Ward on a date to be confirmed.
