A JOBS fair in Hartlepool has been hailed a big success after around 1,000 people attended.

The event, which took place in the Grand Hotel, was organised by Hartlepool Borough Council and the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) via Jobcentre Plus.

It was a chance for people of all ages to talk to a range of organisations and find out more about job and apprenticeship opportunities available locally.

The National Careers Service also sponsored the event and staff were on hand to provide careers advice. The team ran several workshops throughout the day, offering support with application forms, interviews and sector-specific careers information.

Councillor Kevin Cranney, Chair of the Council’s Regeneration Services Committee, said: “The Council has an on-going commitment to get people into good quality training and employment so we were only too happy to join forces with a range of partners to stage this event.

“The fact that so many people attended throughout the day highlights the value of events such as this.

“I know that a number of the organisations present found the event to be very worthwhile and some have told us how they were able to identify good quality candidates for vacancies they have. I would like to thank them for attending.”

The organisations present were Amacus, NHS Professionals, Carewatch, Itec NE, Creative Support, Hartlepool Borough Council, LMR, Penshaw View, Ranstadt, Cordant People, Pro-Active Training, The Body Shop, Kick Off In Business, GI Group, Wolviston Management, NRG, Advanced Retail Solutions, McDonalds, Gem, Nissan (Academy), Dale Care and Hartlepool Life.
