Still time to enter aquathlon

Published Thursday, 31st May 2018

THE annual Big Lime Aquathlon takes place in Hartlepool this weekend and there's still time to enter.

The event takes place on Sunday (June 3) and anyone wishing to give it a try will be able to enter on the day. Entries will be accepted on a first come-first served basis.

People can also volunteer as marshals on the day, and they will be stationed at various points along the route to help ensure the event runs smoothly

The aquathlon is a continuous swim-to-run event, comprising a 750m open water swim in Jackson Dock at Hartlepool marina and a scenic 5km run along the seafront.

The event, which is being organised by Hartlepool Borough Council’s Sport and Physical Activity Team with support from British Triathlon, is open to all, both experienced athletes and amateurs alike. Entry costs £20 for British Triathlon members and £25 for non-members – the additional £5 providing non-members with insurance cover.

Registration for competitors will take place from 7.30-8.30am in the main reception area of Mecca Bingo. Volunteer marshals should also report here. The race starts at 9am.

It is hoped that local people will turn out in force to cheer on and support the competitors.

The aquathlon is part of the Race Across the Tees Valley series of four events, and is a forerunner to the town’s flagship Big Lime Triathlon, which will take place for the sixth time on Sunday 30th September.
