The Ceremonial Mayor of Hartlepool’s two chosen causes have benefitted from a donation boost thanks to generous cafe volunteers in the town.

Volunteers at My Cafe, based at Rift House Community Centre, recently donated £310 raised from a coffee morning and tombola to Councillor Allan Barclay, in support of the two chosen causes that will benefit from his fundraising efforts during his year as Mayor - the Hartlepool Armed Forces Liaison Group and The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Councillor Stephen Akers-Belcher, who is Project Coordinator at My Cafe, presented the cheque to Councillor Barclay on behalf of the volunteers involved in raising the money.

My Cafe is a community cafe, providing a range of healthy eating options at low cost to residents of the town. As the cafe is ran solely by volunteers, all proceeds go directly back into helping the local community.

The Mayor of Hartlepool Councillor Allan Barclay said: “I’d like to thank everyone involved at My Cafe for this very kind donation.

“The amount raised will go some way towards helping the two very important causes I have chosen to support throughout my year as Ceremonial Mayor.”

Councillor Stephen Akers-Belcher added: "We were honoured to present this amount to the Mayor of Hartlepool.

“At My Cafe, we always put supporting the community and each other at the heart of what we do, and we’re pleased that the money our team of volunteers have raised will be put to very good use.”
