Hartlepool bin collections suspended today

Published Friday, 13th July 2018

We would like to advise residents in Hartlepool that there will be no household bin collections today (Friday 13 July).

The decision to suspend collections followed the collapse and death of a member of the Council’s refuse collection team at work this morning, which was witnessed by his colleagues.

Tony Hanson, Hartlepool Borough Council’s Assistant Director (Environment and Neighbourhood Services), said: “Our thoughts and sympathy are with our colleague’s family and friends at this very sad time.

“As people will appreciate, the sudden passing of a much-loved colleague at work has been very traumatic for the refuse collection team and they are extremely upset and shaken.

“As a result, we made the decision not to proceed with bin collections today and have sent the team home.

“We very much hope that residents whose bins haven’t been collected today will give us their understanding.

“The refuse collection team want to come into work tomorrow to cover the work which they haven’t been able to do today.

“Could I therefore please ask residents whose bins were scheduled to be collected today to please take their bins back in overnight tonight and put them out again tomorrow morning (Saturday 14 July) by 7am, ready for collection.

“In the very unlikely event that not every bin is collected tomorrow, any remaining bins will be collected on Monday (16th July).

“May I once again thank residents in advance for their understanding at this very sad time.”

Scheduled bin collections next week remain as normal.
