Set sail for a weekend of fun!

Published Thursday, 19th July 2018

Visitors to the Hartlepool Waterfront Festival this weekend are being invited to set sail on a voyage to explore the Tees Valley coastline's rich wildlife.

After making a splash at last year’s cultural festival, Hartlepool Marina and On Water Training have once again teamed up to provide visitors with a jam-packed line-up of unique water-based experiences.

New to 2018, this year’s programme includes the Seafari experience, which will enable visitors to learn from an experienced skipper and wildlife guide about the varied wildlife that can be found along the coast, including birds, cetaceans (whales, dolphins and porpoises) and local seal populations.

The fun doesn’t stop there - water-enthusiasts will also be able to slip into a wetsuit and have a go at paddle boarding around the marina, or sail back in time and discover Hartlepool’s vibrant history by boat, learning interesting facts about the area’s traditions and culture.

Rachael Forster from Hartlepool Marina said: “We’re delighted to once again be part of the Hartlepool Waterfront Festival and have the chance to give people the opportunity to get out on the water and try something completely different.

“To encourage this we are offering a special discounted rate for festival-goers. Thanks to funding from Hartlepool Borough Council we’ve been able to lower our On Water Taster Activity Programme prices to make activities even more accessible to people

“At last year’s event, we focused on marina activity only, but this year we’ve expanded our programme and we’re going out to sea!” We will be running a range of taster sessions throughout Saturday and Sunday and really hope people come and say hello, as there really is something for everyone!”

Hartlepool Waterfront Festival starts on Friday, July 20, at 5pm and continues through until Sunday, July 22, at 5pm at the Hartlepool Waterfront site within the town’s marina.
