Don't miss the Global Big Latch On

Published Monday, 30th July 2018

A synchronised breastfeeding event will bring together local mothers and their children, friends and family this Friday (3 August) to celebrate the benefits of breastfeeding.

The Global Big Latch On will take place at Rossmere Children’s Centre, Rossmere Way and will invite visitors to share stories, enjoy activities and join the global synchronised breastfeed at 10.30am.

Little visitors to the event can enjoy craft activities, exercise and healthy snacks, while mums can share advice and chat to health representatives about everything from breastfeeding to baby carrying.

Dr Peter Brambleby, Hartlepool Borough Council’s Interim Director of Public Health, said: “I am delighted to see that we are hosting this fantastic event for the third year running.

“Breastfeeding is the most natural thing in the world to do and has many long term benefits for both mother and baby. It is important mums feel supported by their partners, families and communities, and as a Council we are dedicated to offering ongoing support services and advice to help women through every stage of their breastfeeding journeys.”

Melanie Calvert, Hartlepool Borough Council’s Healthy Early Years Coordinator, added: “Last year our Big Latch On breastfeeding event was a great success, and we were extremely pleased to see so many mothers and their children enjoying themselves.

“We would encourage expectant and new mums looking for additional support with breastfeeding to come along to this year’s event to find out more about our advice groups and Well Baby Clinics running in the town.”

Breastfeeding mothers in Hartlepool seeking additional support can attend two advice groups every Monday at Rossmere Children’s Centre, Rossmere Way:

First Latch - 9.15am – 10.15am. A Health Visitor-led group offering advice and support to breastfeeding mums, suitable for children from birth to eight months.

Latch On - 10.00am – 11.30am. A parent-led group for breastfeeding mums offering informal support in a relaxed environment, suitable for breastfed children of any age.
