A chemical processing company in Hartlepool has been praised by a senior councillor as it celebrates its 25th anniversary.

Councillor Kevin Cranney, Chair of Hartlepool Borough Council’s Regeneration Services Committee, paid tribute to management and staff at Exwold following a visit to its HQ in Brenda Road - one of four sites operated by the company in the Tees Valley.

The company, which employs 121 mostly local people, is a specialist contract chemical formulator working for over 60 clients across a variety of industries around the world.

Councillor Cranney said: “Our ambition as a council is to support business growth and create good quality jobs for local people. We need the local workforce to be able to stay in town and not have to travel out of the area.

“Exwold is a great example of a progressive Hartlepool-based company employing local people and I would like to congratulate them on their success.”

The company, which operates to the highest quality assurance standards, has wide experience in the formulation of crop protection products, including herbicides, fungicides and insecticides, and also has particular expertise in the field of granule technology.

It is extremely adept at turning all sorts of chemical products into granules, with many resultant benefits for its clients.

An example of this is the granulated de-icer that it produces for use on airport runways. The irregular-shape of the granules forming this product means they are particularly effective as they don’t roll off runways easily.

Councillor Cranney led a delegation from Hartlepool Borough Council which also included Director of Regeneration and Neighbourhoods Denise Ogden and Economic Regeneration Manager Israr Hussain.

They were briefed by Exwold’s Managing Director Kevin Martin and Commercial Director Sam Price.

Mr Martin said: “It was a pleasure to meet the team from Hartlepool Borough Council, to explain our ambitions and hear their support for this. Hartlepool is a great place to do business and we look forward to further growth in the coming years.”
