Don't miss World Diabetes Day event

Those in Hartlepool living with diabetes don’t want to miss an awareness event happening next week.

Visitors can drop-in to Community Hub Central (York Road) on Wednesday 14 November, which also marks World Diabetes Day, between 10am and 4pm to find out more about living with diabetes, lowering the risks and managing the condition.

At the event, visitors can find out if they are at risk by completing a diabetes risk score sheet, enjoy refreshments, browse information stalls or go for a 30 minute health walk with a walk leader.

Visitors can also find out more than just weight, by having a free Tanita Scales measure, which gives an individualised print out of body composition.

Those who wish to have a further private discussion about how to better manage diabetes may like to book a 1:1 appointment with one of the Council’s Community Connectors, a new free service helping Hartlepool residents to make positive lifestyle changes by accessing the right support.

Denise Murphy, one of Hartlepool Borough Council’s Community Connectors, said: “Every week, 500 people in the UK suffer premature death caused by a devastating complication of diabetes.

“It doesn’t have to be like this, by recognising the symptoms of diabetes and learning about how to better manage the condition, you can reduce future risks associated with the condition in the long term.

“We hope to see as many people as possible at our drop-in event, where the team can answer your questions and support you to gain access to the wide range of local services on offer.”

World Diabetes Day is a globally-recognised event which aims to increase awareness of diabetes. More information can be found at www.diabetes.co.uk.
