The A689 (Stockton Street) through the centre of Hartlepool is to undergo a series of evening and night-time closures this week and next whilst re-surfacing works are carried out.

The works will affect a stretch of the dual carriageway between the Park Road/Huckelhoven Way junction and the Marina Gateway Bridge.

The road is currently undergoing a major revamp which has involved the removal of a central reservation wall and the installation of new pedestrian barriers and lighting columns. A new right turn into the town’s multi-storey car park is also being created for southbound traffic.

All of the closures are expected to be in place from 7pm until around 2am the following day, with the first ones – on the Middleton Grange Shopping Centre side of the road – occurring on Thursday and Friday (August 15th and 16th).

The same side of the road will be closed on Monday and Tuesday of next week (August 19th and 20th) and then both sides of the road will be closed on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (August 21st, 22nd and 23rd).

Diversions will be in place. Northbound traffic will be re-directed up Park Road and along York Road while southbound traffic will be diverted off Marina Way and along Maritime Avenue towards Mainsforth Terrace and Church Street.
