Cold Calling Warning - Boiler Grants/ Energy Efficiency

Published Friday, 20th September 2019

Trading Standards are warning Hartlepool residents to be cautious when taking calls from companies offering grants to install boilers and radiators.

It follows a complaint from one of the town’s recognised installers operating alongside Hartlepool Borough Council that their customers are being targeted by another firm in the region who are not approved to conduct work under the LA Flex scheme. Those customers are contacted by telephone initially with a survey appointment being arranged. Following the survey the householder is informed that they do not qualify for free energy efficiency improvements but are then offered a new boiler or radiators for a hefty deposit, reportedly £399.

Hartlepool Borough Council urges householders never to deal with coldcallers or arrange for an unsolicited caller to visit you in your home. If in doubt please call Hartlepool Borough Council on 01429 523330 and ask them to verify the company is approved to operate.
