Young people in Hartlepool who are leaving school next summer or who are not currently in education, employment or training are invited to make a date for a large careers fair in the town.

Called ‘The BIG Event’ and organised by Hartlepool Borough Council and Middleton Grange Shopping Centre as part of their ‘Careers@Hartlepool’ initiative, it takes place on Saturday 5 October from 11am to 3pm in the central square on the ground floor of Middleton Grange Shopping Centre. There’s no need to book – just drop in.

More than 25 employers, colleges and training providers will be taking part, including EDF Energy, the RAF and Yorkshire Bank, as well as representatives of most local colleges and training providers.

There will also be a chance for people to enter a free prize draw to win £100 of shopping vouchers.

All the town’s Year 10 and 11 students have received a direct invitation via their school and parents and carers are also welcome.

Councillor Leisa Smith, Chair of the Council’s Children’s Services Committee, said: “This very popular event is a great way for young people to meet and chat with potential employers and further education and training organisations to find out more about the options open to them.

“It’s also a very useful way for parents and carers to learn more about the opportunities available to their children, so they are very welcome to come along too.”

Mark Rycraft, Centre Manager at Middleton Grange Shopping Centre, said: “We’re thrilled to be hosting this event for the fourth year in a row. We’re expecting hundreds of young people to attend to take advantage of the skills, training and jobs on offer.”
