Staff at Hartlepool Borough Council are celebrating after receiving four top accolades.

Hartlepool Borough Council received two accolades at the Constructing Excellence National 2019 Awards in London.

Awards

The Hartlepool Headland Coastal Defences Project and Whitley Bay Promenade Coastal Protection Works – both designed and led by Hartlepool Council’s own Engineering Department – won the Innovation Award.

At the same ceremony, the Headland Coastal Defences Project was also ‘highly commended’ in the Sustainability category.

On the same night, Hartlepool Borough Council was also recognised with the Large Project of the Year and Client of the Year awards at the Civil Engineers Contractors Association North East Awards.

Councillor Shane Moore, the Leader of Hartlepool Borough Council, said: “Winning so many awards in one evening is a fantastic achievement and it demonstrates the quality of our Engineering Department.

“In particular, to receive this sort of recognition at a national level really helps to put Hartlepool on the map.

“The fact that we were asked to design and lead the Whitley Bay Promenade Coastal Protection Works on behalf of another local authority shows the reputation of the team.”

Tony Hanson, Hartlepool Borough Council’s Assistant Director (Environment and Neighbourhood Services), said: “The awards reflect the high-quality work that the team is capable of carrying out and they will only serve to further enhance the reputation of this authority.

“I would like to congratulate everyone involved in these projects – they should be very proud of this achievement.”
