A range of local companies will be showcasing their products at a special event in Hartlepool at the weekend to mark Small Business Saturday.

The Winter Fayre will take place at The BIS in Whitby Street on Saturday (December 7th) from 10am-3pm and admission is free.

It is being organised by Hartlepool Borough Council which has refurbished and extended the Grade II Listed former Post Office building to turn it into a centre for business start-ups in the creative industries sector.

Businesses based in the centre will be present at the event along with a number of others.

Products on sales will include hand-crafted jewellery, art and illustrations, hand-made gifts, traditional crafts, patchwork quilting, photography and eco-friendly gifts. There will also be a craft workshop for children.

Small Business Saturday is a grassroots, non-commercial national campaign to highlight small business success and encourage people to “shop local” and support small businesses in their communities.

Councillor Christopher Akers-Belcher, Chair of Hartlepool Borough Council’s Regeneration Services Committee, said: “As an authority, we are keen to support small businesses as we recognise the key role they have to play in creating jobs for local people and bringing money into the local economy.

“We hope people will come along to Saturday’s event and do a bit of Christmas shopping whilst supporting local businesses.”
