Wynyard Garden Village announcement welcomed

An announcement by the Government that the UK's newest Garden Community is to be built at Wynyard has been welcomed by the Leader of Hartlepool Borough Council.

Councillor Shane Moore says the decision will result in a massive boost for the local economy.

Wynyard Garden Village is to be delivered as part of the Government’s national Garden Communities Programme and will involve the Council working closely with the majority landowners in the area, Wynyard Park Limited and Homes England.

Councillor Moore said: “As the settlement of Wynyard has developed over the years, it has been done so to a high standard and with the character of a Garden Village. This announcement will fast-track the on-going development of a sustainable mixed use community incorporating residential areas with the neighbouring Wynyard Business Park, whilst also opening up new areas of land for development.

“The benefits will be significant – with much-needed high-quality new homes being built in the Borough of Hartlepool, leading to the creation of many new construction jobs.

“The new homes which will be built over the next 15 years and beyond, will also generate additional Council Tax income for the authority which has faced unprecedented financial pressures in recent years.

“We have lobbied hard for Wynyard to be included in the Garden Communities Programme, so we are delighted that the Government has now given the go-ahead.”
