An award-winning musical about a gay milennial looking for love is coming to Hartlepool next month.

‘GUY’ by musical theatre specialists leo&hyde will be staged at Hartlepool Town Hall Theatre on Saturday February 8th as part of a North-East tour.

The musical rom-com - described as ‘Bridget Jones meets Queer Eye with a catfishing twist’ - focuses on Guy, a gay millennial who is also overweight, nerdy and shy and doesn’t feel like a good fit within the gay community.

After rejection and jealousy on dating apps pushes him to pretend to be his cooler, thinner best friend online, he is forced to confront his inner demons. But, Guy isn’t the only one living a double life.

“We love to tell stories about living in a modern world where we are constantly switched on, with all its highs and lows. GUY is a little glimpse into a hidden world lots of people don’t know about, but shows that there are things we can all relate to living in 2020. It’s a gay rom-com for everybody,” said Leo Mercer, writer and producer of GUY.

“We are delighted to be bringing leo&hyde’s powerful and diverse musical to our theatre and think people will be able to really connect and engage with this heartfelt story about modern dating and mental health,” added Adam Strickland, Duty Officer at Hartlepool Town Hall Theatre.

The production has been a huge hit with audiences and has scooped up awards for Best New Writing at the Buxton Fringe and Best Show at Birmingham Fest.

Complete with 12 heart-pounding electronic-pop anthems, this millennial odyssey through bingeing, gyming, prejudice, dating, beauty standards, and stolen identity is a much-needed reminder that the only person you can be is yourself.
