Environmentally-aware businesses invited to special event

Businesses in Hartlepool are being invited to attend a free event to find out more about how they can reduce their plastic waste.

The event, which will take place at Centre for Independent Living in Burbank Street on Thursday February 27th from 5.30-7pm, is being hosted by Plastic Free Hartlepool with support from Hartlepool Borough Council.

Plastic Free Hartlepool is a community group founded in 2018 which has recently been awarded Plastic Free Community Status from the marina conservation charity Surfers Against Sewage.

In achieving the status, Plastic Free Hartlepool worked with the local business community which resulted in 37 businesses removing at least three pieces of single use plastic from their operations.

A presentation to the businesses acknowledging their achievements will be made at the event by Hartlepool Borough Council’s Chief Executive Gill Alexander and Director of Regeneration and Neighbourhoods Denise McGuckin.

It is hoped that other businesses keen to follow their example will attend Thursday’s event.
