During the ceremony, the Mayor will read out the Commonwealth Affirmation and Councillor Moore will make a speech about the Commonwealth.

Councillor Loynes said: “The Commonwealth numbers over 2.4 billion people – a third of the world’s population – and here in Hartlepool we are always very proud to mark Commonwealth Day and the shared democratic values which it represents.

“I’m delighted that some of our young citizens from Hartlepool’s schools are joining us for what will be a very special commemoration.”

Councillor Moore added: “As Commonwealth citizens we benefit from a huge network of mutual support and collaboration spanning the globe.

“We extend a warm welcome to local people to join us for the raising of the Commonwealth flag and to hear songs from the children.”
