Schools in Hartlepool have been praised for their outstanding support of critical workers and families of vulnerable children during the coronavirus outbreak.

Hartlepool Borough Council’s Director of Children’s Services Sally Robinson has paid tribute to the selfless actions of headteachers and their staff teams.

The Government recently announced that it was closing schools to the majority of pupils until further notice to try to prevent the spread of infection.

However, it asked them to stay open wherever possible to care for the children of critical workers and children deemed to be vulnerable.

Sally Robinson said: “The response of schools in Hartlepool has been absolutely exemplary and I would like to thank them for the excellent care they have been providing in very difficult circumstances.

“Headteachers and members of their staff teams have demonstrated an exceptional level of professionalism and commitment to their pupils in continuing to open their doors for children and young people who need care and support for a variety of reasons.

“This really does confirm what we have always known – we have great schools in Hartlepool with excellent staff and the future of our children is in good hands.”
