CORONAVIRUS – Important changes to Register Office services

Published Monday, 6th April 2020

Residents are reminded to please be aware of important changes to Hartlepool Register Office services during the current Coronavirus emergency.

In the light of the national social distancing regulations, the Register Office staff are working remotely. This means that until further notice it is not possible for members of the public to book a face-to-face appointment with the staff at the Register Office in Civic Centre.

If people need to report a death, please contact the team by telephone on (01429) 523337.

In accordance with the national restrictions, all birth registrations are currently suspended until further notice – anyone wishing to register a birth should keep any relevant documentation safely until such time as the restrictions are lifted and it is once again possible to attend the Register Office in person to register the birth.

In the meantime, if you need to apply for Child Benefit or Universal Credit, please visit www.gov.uk/child-benefit

In accordance with the national restrictions, all ceremonies including weddings, civil partnerships and celebration ceremonies are also currently suspended until further notice.

Copies of existing birth, marriage and death certificates may still be ordered by calling the above telephone number or online at online.hartlepool.gov.uk
