With Hartlepool’s leisure centres closed due to the Coronavirus outbreak, staff are reaching out to local residents via video.

Members of the Leisure, Recreation and Participation Service at Hartlepool Borough Council have recorded a series of workout films and uploaded them to their Get Hartlepool Active You Tube channel.

They can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpUB8mpshJJllZKmrLtslcA

They include boxfit, cardio and core, ab blast, dancercise, pilates and chairobics sessions, a children’s workout and a hip hop stay at home dance challenge.

Victoria Weighill, a Sport and Physical Activity Officer with the Council, said: “With the closure of leisure centres as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak, people who regularly attend fitness sessions cannot currently do so.

“Although these are exceptional times, the videos enable us to maintain an element of normality and allow people to take part in regular physical activity at home whilst abiding by the government’s rules on public gatherings and social distancing.

“We have tried to reach out to as many of the town’s residents as possible by producing videos for people of all ages and levels of fitness.”

“The feedback we have received has been great, with customers saying how much they are enjoying watching the videos and trying new activities.”
