CORONAVIRUS: Use allotment sites responsibly, tenants urged

Published Wednesday, 8th April 2020

Allotment sites across Hartlepool remain open but tenants are being urged to act responsibly to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

They are being asked to observe the following guidelines:

  • Only visit your allotment if you can walk there.
  • Only partners from the same household should attend the plot.
  • You should only drive to a site if you have livestock – this is classed as essential travel for animal welfare purposes.

Hartlepool Borough Council which owns the allotment sites, says that once on their plots tenants must also observe social distancing rules.

It warns that people who fail to comply with the rules could face individual enforcement action and allotment sites could even be closed.

Tenants are advised to follow guidance issued by the National Allotment Association which can be accessed at
