Preparations stepped up for phased re-opening of leisure facilities

Preparations for a phased re-opening of Council-run leisure facilities in Hartlepool are being stepped up with the launch of a dedicated web page.

People keen to make the comeback to exercise with Hartlepool Borough Council can now access a wide range of information, including an extensive Frequently Asked Questions section, at https://www.gethartlepoolactive.co.uk/covid-19-info

Information on the web page includes details of work being carried out by the Council to keep customers and staff safe, and how customers can play their part too.

Head of Leisure, Recreation and Participation Ian Gardiner said: “We are really excited about being able to re-open very soon, and we look forward to once again seeing our many loyal customers.

“We want people to make the comeback to our facilities with confidence, and the information on the new dedicated web aims to reassure them that the safety of customers and staff is our top priority.”

Safety measures include:

  • Staff training on COVID-19 management.
  • Signage throughout buildings offering clear guidance to customers on where to go and what to do.
  • New “gold standard” cleaning procedures.
  • The purchase of specialist decontamination equipment to ensure that gym facilities are safe to use.
  • Placing a member of staff at the entrance to facilities to welcome and guide customers.
  • Restricting the number of people allowed to take part in activities and requiring them to always book in advance.
