To help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, upcoming open evenings at Hartlepool secondary schools for Year 6 primary pupils transferring to the schools next autumn have been cancelled.

Instead, all the secondary schools are putting information on their websites in videos and other formats for pupils and parents to view and are inviting them to contact them directly if they then have any questions.

The information will be live on the websites from the dates on which the open evenings were due to take place, which were as follows: St Hild’s – Thursday 1 October, Manor – Monday 5 October, English Martyrs – Tuesday 13 October, High Tunstall – Thursday 15 October and Dyke House – Tuesday 20 October.

In a joint statement, the headteachers of the secondary schools said: “We are disappointed that we will not be able to invite Year 6 pupils to our schools and showcase all the fantastic work that is going on.

“However, we would like to invite Year 6 pupils and their parents to look at our websites to find out further information regarding each school and to contact us to request further information if they require it.

“We realise that this is an important transitional time in all young people’s lives but we must protect each other at this time.”
