A grade II listed former Post Office building converted into a centre for creative industries in Hartlepool has scooped a further top award and been shortlisted for two others.

The BIS in Whitby Street which houses 28 units of various sizes, has been named as the winner of the Best Change of Use of an Existing Building category in the LABC (Local Authority Building Control) Northern Building Excellence Awards 2020.

It is also one of six projects, plans and policies shortlisted for the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) North East Award for Planning Excellence, the winner of which will be announced in November.

In addition, it had been shortlisted in the RIBA North East Awards 2020. These awards have now been cancelled due to COVID-19, but The BIS’s shortlisting is to be automatically rolled over and included in the 2021 awards

All three accolades come just a few months after the building won the Heritage Award at the RICS Social Impact Awards 2020, North East.
