Caledonian Road to partially re-open

Caledonian Road in Hartlepool will partially re-open to vehicles tomorrow (Friday November 6th) after being closed for over two weeks on public safety grounds.

A short stretch of the road north of its junction with Oakland Avenue was closed in both directions and diversions put in place by Hartlepool Borough Council amid concern over the structural condition of a house.

Council officials have now taken the decision to re-open the far side of the road, opposite the house in question, after the owner took action to resolve their immediate concerns. Priority will be given to vehicles heading towards Oxford Road.

Kieran Bostock, Assistant Director - Place Management, said: “I am pleased that we are in a position to partially re-open the road and I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and the owner of the property for working with us to resolve our immediate concerns.

“Inspections of the property remain on-going and once we are satisfied that the entire building is stable we will re-open the road completely.”
