Council-run leisure facilities in Hartlepool are to re-open when the current national COVID-19 restrictions end on Wednesday, although there will be a reduced offering while the town remains in Tier 3.

The following facilities will be available:

  • Brierton Sports Centre: Gym (re-located in the sports hall), 3G pitch, all-weather games area & dance studio.
  • Mill House Leisure Centre:  Swimming pools for lane swimming and club use, learner pool for family swim sessions and sports hall available for club training & bookings.
  • Headland Sports Centre – Gym (re-located in the sports hall)
  • Summerhill Visitors Centre – closed to the public, although the wider Summerhill Country Park open.

Unfortunately, while the town is in Tier 3, indoor fitness classes cannot take place, although classes are still running online. A timetable can be viewed at https://www.gethartlepoolactive.co.uk/fitnessclasses

The Council has changed the way venues operate to help protect customers and staff during the pandemic, including new booking arrangements, modifications and improvements to cleaning and hygiene, with new procedures and equipment and clearer guidance for customers. The new procedures have been so successful that there has been no cases of Covid-19 transmission, following public use of the facilities.

Customers are also being asked to continue playing their part by:

  • Washing their hands for at least 20 seconds, especially after coming into contact with surfaces touched by others.
  • Using the sanitiser stations located throughout buildings as often as they want.
  • Always maintaining a distance of at least two metres.
  • Avoiding touching their eyes, nose or mouth.
  • Covering their nose and mouth with a tissue if they cough or sneeze.
  • Wearing a face covering in all communal areas of facilities.
  • Paying by card wherever possible.
  • Wiping down all equipment after use by utilising the cleaning stations that are available.
  • Being respectful of others at all times.

Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms or who is self-isolating, sharing a household or support bubble with somebody who has developed symptoms in the last14 days or has been advised by NHS Test and Trace to self-isolate, should not enter any of the facilities.
