Published Wednesday, 9th December 2020

Residents of Hartlepool are being invited to give their views on a series of proposed improvements to the A689 through the town.

The Tees Valley Mayor and Combined Authority have launched a public engagement exercise to support the development of a funding bid of around £27 million which, if successful, would see some £8 million invested in improvement schemes in Hartlepool.

The proposed improvements in Hartlepool are at:

  • Park Road/Huckelhoven Way.
  • Tesco/Burn Road.
  • Oxford Street.
  • Brenda Road Roundabout.
  • Belle Vue Way/Stockton Road.
  • Owton Manor Lane.
  • Truro Drive.
  • Dalton Back Lane.
  • A cycleway/footway from Sapper’s Corner to Wolviston roundabout.

Residents can access further information about the proposed improvements and give their views at www.teesvalley-ca.gov.uk/consultations

The public engagement closes on Friday December 18th.

Kieran Bostock, Assistant Director- Place Management at Hartlepool Borough Council, said: “These proposals demonstrate our ambitions to help reduce congestion and improve journey times for residents along the A689 which will also provide an added benefit to the local road network. Although we are only at development stage at the moment resident feedback is important to help support our bid for investment.

“The Tees Valley Combined Authority is leading on the funding bid and we would urge local residents to support this process by providing their views on the proposed improvements.”

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “Improving our transport infrastructure is a huge priority for me, so that local people and our amazing businesses can quickly and efficiently get from A to B for business and pleasure.

“Having good road links is also key in securing the investments that are creating the good-quality well paid jobs we all want to see come to Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool, that’s why transformational infrastructure projects such as these are an essential part of my plan for jobs.”
