COVID-19: Statement regarding schools in Hartlepool

Published Sunday, 3rd January 2021

An important message from Sally Robinson, Director of Children's Services at Hartlepool Borough Council:

"Primary schools across Hartlepool are currently expected to open as planned during this week, from tomorrow (Monday 4 January) based on public health advice.

“This is an ever changing situation which is under constant review but we are not currently experiencing the number of cases in areas such as London and some parts of the South East where primaries will remain shut to most pupils.

“The safety of our children is our utmost priority and local decisions are driven by public health evidence and by the massive importance of education.

“Following the Government directive, secondary schools across Hartlepool are to remain closed for an extra two weeks for most pupils, but exam-year pupils will return a week earlier than their schoolmates in the week commencing Monday 11th January.

“Parents should wear face coverings and observe social distancing during drop off and collection to help stop the spread of Coronavirus.

“We would ask that you check individual school’s websites and social media for the latest information and any updates.

“I’d like to close by thanking all of our school leaders and their staff for their continued unwavering commitment to their pupils.”
