Hartlepool Borough Council will hold its first in-person meeting since the start of lockdown at the town’s historic Borough Hall.

The Annual Council meeting – which will take place at 7pm on Tuesday 25 May – includes the election of the Ceremonial Mayor for the coming municipal year

The Leader of the Council and a Deputy Leader of the Council will also be elected, as well as appointments to committees being made.

Hartlepool Borough Hall is being used to enable social distancing to be maintained and a small number of members of the public will be able to watch the proceedings with spaces being available on a first come, first served basis.

Those wishing to attend the meeting should phone (01429) 523568 or (01429) 532013 by midday on Monday 24 May and name and address details will be taken for NHS Test and Trace.

A recording of the meeting will also be made available to watch on the Council’s website at www.hartlepool.gov.uk

Denise McGuckin, Hartlepool Borough Council Managing Director, said: “With social distancing guidelines still being in place, a large meeting like this can’t be held in the Council Chamber at the Civic Centre.

“An alternative venue had to be found to enable social distancing, so it was agreed that the most suitable place was Hartlepool Borough Hall.”
