Hartlepool Mayor presents cheques to chosen charities

Published Monday, 6th September 2021

The Ceremonial Mayor of Hartlepool, Councillor Brenda Loynes, has presented cheques to representatives from three chosen charities.

The funds raised by the Mayors Charity Appeal were split between Pansies Breast Cancer Group, The Great North Air Ambulance and Harbour, an anti-domestic abuse service, with each receiving an amount of £2,681.32, an equal share of the overall total raised.

Councillor Brenda Loynes said:  “The money raised was much reduced to what we would have wanted to raise in comparison to previous years due to the pandemic.”

“Nevertheless, I am grateful for the fundraising that we were able to hold throughout my first mayoral year.”

“I’m also very grateful and so pleased that the public and the other Mayors across the region were very generous and supported my chosen charities and we were able to do our bit and help them.”

"The charity sector, along with many other sectors, have been hit hard during the pandemic, so it has felt even more important to raise as much money as we could during these difficult times.”

“As I continue my role as Ceremonial Mayor, I hope we can continue to raise money for my new selected charities, Alice House Hospice and Miles for Men and Walk for Women, and that we can raise much-needed funds for them.”

Each year, the sitting Ceremonial Mayor of Hartlepool raises thousands of pounds for local charitable causes through collections and organised events. The Mayor’s Charity Appeal beneficiaries change every year, as every new mayor chooses causes to support which are close or important to them.

Cllr Brenda Loynes’s new selected charities are Alice House Hospice, which exists to ensure people affected by a life limiting illness or the death of a loved one have the care, comfort and support they need. The other charity chosen is Miles for Men & Walk for Women, which is dedicated to raising funds for those affected by cancer both within the local community and nationally.
