Hartlepool’s Community Hub South has undergone quite a transformation during the pandemic and people are invited to come along to three days of special events next week to see for themselves.

There’s a much more welcoming feel to the Wynyard Road venue following substantial refurbishment by Hartlepool Borough Council including redecoration and new carpets.

A new community space has been created to host a range of different activities and social groups, plus there’s a new children’s area and a community café offering tasty snacks and affordable meals.

Another new addition is the Wellbeing Suite where qualified staff can help residents with long-term health conditions to increase their activity levels in a safe way, helping them to stay connected and enjoy life.

The Hub is buzzing with lots to do each week, from the library, Hub Social and sensory room to the community choir, children’s stories, Taekwondo and men’s yoga.

To celebrate its new look the Hub is holding three days of drop-in events from 10am to 5.30pm, packed with free activities for all ages:

 

Tuesday 1st March

10am–11am – Stories, Rhymes and Junior Coding – a chance for the under-fives to learn to code through toys.

11.30am-1.30pm – Family Time Rossmere Park Trail – An under-fives Gruffalo trail in Rossmere Park to celebrate World Book Day.

12 noon-3pm – Drop-in Local History Session – An overview of West Hartlepool in the 1950s discussing the central area of West Hartlepool and the many changes the area went through during that time.

Wednesday 2nd March

10.30am-1.30pm – Free Mini Manicures.

11am-12 noon – Community Bingo.

2pm-4pm – Activity and Social Group Worth it Wednesday – Enjoy an afternoon of activities, a cuppa and a chat.

3.30pm-5.30pm – 3D Pens and VR Drop-in. Suitable for children aged 4-plus. Drop in and try the brand new VR system or bring your creations to life with 3D pens.

 

Thursday 3rd March

10am-11am – Stories and Rhymes. Come along in your favourite fancy dress costume to celebrate World Book Day.

11.30am-12 noon – Chair Exercises. Simple seated exercises, moving joints and muscles to help you stay strong and mobile.

11.30am-12.30pm – Bookchat. Come and meet other readers and have a coffee and a chat about books.

12 noon-2pm – Community Kitchen. Join us for lunch in our new-look Community Kitchen. As usual we will be serving a two-course hot lunch with a drink for £1.

1.30pm-2.30pm – Adult Social Group – Drop in for a cuppa, chat and games.

1.30pm-3.30pm – Owton Manor History. Join local author Frances Wilson to talk about the Owton Manor area and developments over the years.

4pm-5pm – World Book Day Bags. Suitable for children aged 10-plus. Design a bag around your favourite book or character. Booking essentialto book call 07768 841306 or email hubevents@hartlepool.gov.uk

Community Hub South’s normal opening hours are Mondays to Fridays 10am - 4pm and Saturdays 10am to noon.
