Hartlepool Borough Council has held on to the title of Council of the Year at the North East Regional Energy Efficiency Awards for 2022.

The award recognises the continued effort that has been undertaken by the Council over the last year to tackle fuel poverty in Hartlepool and the financial and carbon savings that have been achieved.

Pacifica Group (0800Repair) nominated the council for a second time in relation to the work carried out through the Warm Homes Fund Project and ECO (Energy Company Obligation) funding which is aimed at improving energy efficiency in Hartlepool.

Through working with the Council over the last 12 months Pacifica Group (0800Repair), along with three other ECO contractors and appointed contractor for the Warm Homes Fund Project (managed by Stockton Borough Council), have been able to install the following energy efficiency measures:

  • 444 gas boilers
  • 320 cavity wall insulations
  • 25 loft insulations
  • 42 underfloor insulations
  • 14 party wall insulations
  • 3 first time central heating installations
  • 122 heating control
  • 28 air source heat pumps
  • 16 gas central heating installations

These measures improved 566 homes, with a number of households receiving more than one of the above measures. It is estimated that these measures represent lifetime savings to residents of £6,894,059.

Tony Hanson, Hartlepool Borough Council Director for Neighbourhoods and Regulatory Services said: “This is another fantastic achievement for the Housing Standards Team in recognising the work and commitment that has gone into making sure that there are options out there for Hartlepool residents who are in need of that extra support with heating their homes efficiently.”

“The work they do with companies such as Pacifica Group (0800Repair) is valuable to some of our most vulnerable residents who need that support to make their home warmer, safer and more energy efficient which helps them save money on their utility bills in the process.”

The Energy Efficiency Awards are run by the Energy Efficiency Association. The Regional or Local Authority Body of the Year Award rewards one exceptional council, in each of the 11 Regional areas around the UK that has shown a true commitment to promoting energy efficiency within their region. The award recognises the efforts of that council and seeks to thank them for their service to their local community.
