Grants available to help with Platinum Jubilee community celebrations

Published Monday, 11th April 2022

Applications are now open for grants from Hartlepool Borough Council to help groups organise community celebrations over HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Weekend from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June.

The grants are open to neighbourhood or community groups in Hartlepool, which can apply for between £50 and £250 to cover the costs of their activity, from road closure fees to materials.

The funding is only available to constituted groups (groups which have a management committee, a written constitution document and their own bank account), the activity must have a focus on celebrating the Platinum Jubilee and it must be open to the community, as opposed to a closed activity.

In addition, the grants can’t be used to replace funding for existing provision, applicants must explain what the funding will pay for and the money can’t be used for buying food or drinks (including alcohol).

Full details and an application form are available by clicking here and the closing date for receipt of completed applications is noon on Friday 29th April.

Applications will be assessed and funding will be awarded based on the activity proposed and the impact it will have on the community. Successful applicants will be informed by Friday 6th May.

Denise McGuckin, Hartlepool Borough Council Managing Director, said: “The Platinum Jubilee weekend will be an event like no other, celebrating HM The Queen’s remarkable 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.

“I’m sure the people of Hartlepool will come together to celebrate this milestone in fine style and the Council is delighted to play its part by offering these grants to neighbourhood and community groups to help get community celebrations off the ground.”

There are also other ways the council is helping people to get involved in the Jubilee celebrations.

It has published a handbook and an application form for residents wanting to organise a street party and it’s inviting people to share their own memories, photographs and mementoes of how the borough celebrated Her Majesty’s Coronation and subsequent royal events for use in a special exhibition in the town.
