Help chart the history of Church Street

People’s recollections of historic Church Street in Hartlepool are being sought for inclusion on a new website.

They are being asked to submit their memories of significant events, people or buildings to Hartlepool Borough Council’s Townscape Heritage Project Officer Emma Ackroyd.

Written contributions and photographs will be published on www.hartlepoolhistory.co.uk

The website has been set up as part of the Council’s Church Street Revival Project which aims to raise awareness of the area’s rich heritage. The project is made possible by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Emma said: “The website already focusses on eight points of interest in the Church Street area, but we are looking to expand on that with people’s voluntary contributions.

“Their recollections should relate to an event, person or building or significance and we would ask for written submissions of two-three paragraphs, with each paragraph containing no more than 100 words.

“We want the website to become an important local history resource, and moving forward I hope to work with local schools and stage events around the town to promote its on-going development.”

Contributions can be emailed to Emma at churchstreetrevival@hartlepool.gov.uk
