Hartlepool representatives visit the Netherlands to meet Tall Ships teams

With less than a year to go until the world-famous Tall Ships return to Hartlepool in July 2023, delegates recently travelled to the Netherlands to witness this year’s event in action.

The trip provided an ideal opportunity to get together with the organisers of Tall Ships Races Harlingen, as well as connect with delegates from Den Helder (Netherlands), Fredrikstad (Norway), Lerwick (UK) and Arendal (Norway) who will all be hosting a leg of the race next year.

Councillor Shane Moore, Leader of Hartlepool Borough Council, said: “We were delighted to be invited by Sail Training International – the organisers of the world famous Tall Ships Races & Regattas – to visit Harlingen to see the event in action and talk to Captains and crews about visiting us in 2023.

“In particular, we were delighted to be invited on board Shabab Oman II, the Royal Navy of Oman’s spectacular sail training ship, and we really hope she’ll be coming to Tall Ships Hartlepool 2023.

“The event in Harlingen was brilliantly put together and managed in such a professional way. Of course Harlingen is a completely different port to Hartlepool, but there were a number of elements that we thought worked particularly well and we’ll now be looking at how we can implement these examples of best practice here in Hartlepool.

"It is so exciting that we are now only a year away and I’m sure that the time between now and next summer will absolutely fly by.

“I would encourage as many people as possible to come forward and get involved for 2023.”
