Appeal for Big Lime triathlon marshals

Published Thursday, 21st July 2022

Volunteer marshals are being asked to come forward to ensure the smooth running of Hartlepool’s Big Lime Weekend.

A number of people have already offered to help, but Hartlepool Borough Council’s Active & Creative Hartlepool service is hoping that more volunteers will come forward ahead of the showpiece events which run from Friday 12th to Sunday 14th August.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome, but under-16s must be accompanied by an adult. Marshals supporting events will be placed at various points of the triathlon course to assist both competitors and spectators. Briefing support and guidance will be provided to all volunteers prior to the events.

The Big Lime Weekend comprises a predictor swim on the Friday, an aquathlon the following day and a triathlon on the Sunday. Marshals are needed for the Saturday and Sunday events where they will be provided with complimentary refreshments.

Anyone who is interested in becoming a marshal can email participation@hartlepool.gov.uk and full details will be provided.

Katie Myers, Hartlepool Borough Council’s Participation Officer, said: “The marshals have a vital role to play both in terms of competitors and spectators.

“This is also an opportunity for people to gain experience of volunteering and being involved in the organisation and running of a large-scale open air event.”

For those interested in taking part in the Big Lime Weekend, events can be entered at www.activehartlepool.co.uk/triathlon or by emailing participation@hartlepool.gov.uk. Online entries close at 5pm on Friday 5th August.
