Come and find out more about Hartlepool Technology For Care

Published Tuesday, 25th April 2023

An exciting new chapter has opened for Hartlepool Borough Council’s Telecare service.

The Council has contracted provision of the service – which provides alarms and detectors that are monitored 24-hours a day to support people to live at home independently and safely – to a new provider, Taking Care, and the service has changed its name to Hartlepool Technology For Care.

Thanks to Taking Care’s extensive expertise, the service will be able to offer a much wider range of monitored alarm equipment incorporating the latest technology to suit people’s individual needs.

Taking Care is part of AXA Health and has been providing technology-enabled care services for more than 35 years.

It offers an extensive range of innovative solutions – from basic personal alarms and fall detectors for the home and garden through to alarms people can take with them out-and-about and smart home monitoring solutions.

Current Hartlepool Technology for Care users and anyone interested in finding out more about the service are invited to one of several drop-in sessions where there will be an opportunity to see demonstrations of the range of alarms and chat to the team.

The sessions are:

Wednesday 26th April

  • 12 noon to 4pm at Community Hub South, Wynyard Road, Hartlepool
  • 5pm to 7pm at Community Hub South, Wynyard Road, Hartlepool

Thursday 27th April

  • 10am to 1.30pm at Community Hub Central, York Road, Hartlepool

Jill Harrison, Hartlepool Borough Council’s Director of Adult and Community Based Services, said: “We are very proud of the care we provide to many hundreds of people in Hartlepool through this service, helping them to live safely and independently at home with the reassurance that, if something happens, help is at hand at just the touch of a button.

“Together with our existing partner North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, we’re really excited to welcome Taking Care to our partnership and to unveil Hartlepool Technology For Care and its much wider range of state-of-the-art technical support.

“If you are worried, for example, that you or someone you care for might suffer a fall, forget to switch off water, electricity or gas, or be put at risk by leaving home unsupervised at unusual times of the day or night, Hartlepool Technology For Care may be able to help.

“Whether you already use the service or would just like to find out more, please come along to one of our drop-in events – you’ll be sure of a warm welcome.”

Steve Gates, Managing Director of Taking Care, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Hartlepool Borough Council and North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust in this exciting service.

“Hartlepool Technology for Care is a truly innovative outcome-based service that is focused on empowering independent living and supporting older residents in the Hartlepool area to live happy and healthy lives in their own homes.

“Taking Care applauds support for such a forward-thinking service, which is totally in line with our ethos of working with our corporate partners to provide more co-produced, proactive and personalised Technology Enabled Care solutions for their service users.

“The process of joining the partnership has been an open and productive relationship and we are greatly looking forward to working together in the future.”

Matt Wynne, Care Group Director at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The partnership between the Trust and Hartlepool Borough Council’s Telecare service has been invaluable in how we work in the community to support people to be cared for in their own home safely. The collaboration ensures that both the individual’s health and social care needs are met.

“The introduction of the new technology supports meeting the needs of many more people within our local population, ensuring we are using the latest and most innovative solutions to safeguard our most vulnerable residents and improve their quality of life.”
