Make a date for Hartlepool’s Fireworks Spectacular!

Published Tuesday, 24th October 2023

There’s a fun-packed afternoon in store for all the family at Hartlepool’s Fireworks Spectacular at Seaton Carew on Sunday 5th November.

The FREE event is organised by Hartlepool Borough Council with sponsorship from headline sponsor X-energy and from MKM Building Supplies.

It will get under way a bit earlier this year as the fireworks are launched from the beach and need to be scheduled in line with the tide times.

The display will be launched from the area of the beach stretching from the bus station to the children’s play area, giving the audience a much larger viewing area on the promenade from which to enjoy the display and room to spread out. For safety reasons there will be no access to the beach itself.

The fun starts from 2pm with a children’s fairground and a sparkling line-up of street performers along the prom.

Strutting his stuff will be Javert the giant illuminated monkey puppet, who wowed the crowds on his first outing in Hartlepool in 2019 when he led the Church Street Halloween parade.

Zooming around will be Granny Turismo – the feistiest grannies you’ll ever meet, who’ll steal your heart with their cheeky chatter and snazzy two-wheeled routines!

Plus there will be laughs-a-plenty from the stars of this year’s Hartlepool Christmas pantomime, Peter Pan and The Lost Boys ...

There will also be a fancy dress competition (any theme) for children aged 16 and under – the winner will receive a family ticket (two adults and two children aged 16 and under) for the performance of the Christmas panto on Monday 11th December at 6pm.

Then at 5pm it’s the fireworks themselves – get ready for another dazzling display!

The event will end at 6pm.

As in previous years, The Front at Seaton Carew between the Station Lane and Elizabeth Way junctions will be closed to traffic from 4.15pm to 6.30pm.

Given the popularity of the event, people are being encouraged to walk to it if possible.

People are encouraged to park in the following areas:

  • The Seaview ‘Sandy’ Car Park just south of the Seaton Carew Clock Tower (650 spaces). Parking in Seaview Car Park will be free from 3pm. If you park in the Seaview ‘Sandy’ Car Park, when you leave you will only be able to turn left until The Front is reopened.
  • The Hartlepool Bay Car Park near Newburn Bridge (62 spaces).

Disabled parking is available in both car parks.

  • Along the section of Coronation Drive between Warrior Drive and the steelworks bridge access road – parking restrictions will be suspended on the northbound side of the road only from mid-afternoon.

Demand for parking is expected to be high, so please get there early!

People are asked to note that for operational and safety reasons, the Rocket House Car Park will be closed throughout the whole day and will not be available for parking.

Any visitors who park in residential streets are asked to please park legally and considerately – parking enforcement teams will be in operation to deal with inconsiderate or illegal parking.

Parking will not be permitted on De Havilland Way and in the wider Dunes housing estate.

Traffic management staff will be in place on roads near to the event to provide advice and guidance.

If the immediate area around Seaton Carew becomes heavily congested then road closures may be applied at the Power Station roundabout, the Golden Flatts roundabout and Newburn Bridge.

Councillor Sue Little, Vice-Chair of Hartlepool Borough Council’s Adult and Community-Based Services Committee, said: “Our Fireworks Spectacular is one of the best-loved events in the Hartlepool calendar and we’re lining up another dazzling display, as well as some unusual street-performers to keep you entertained in the build-up to it.

“A big thank you goes to our headline sponsor X-energy and also to our sponsor MKM Building Supplies. Come and join us for what’s sure to be another fun-packed family event.”
